What

Courageous Conversations are the ones you don't like having because typically what you have to say may not be well received. Most people avoid them until they have to, by which time it is more difficult to achieve a good result. If you learn how to do them skillfully, you can discover how liberating, constructive and time saving they become. They are the means by which to have influence and impact.

Courageous Conversations cut through to the essence of issues. They encompass truth, integrity, accountability, and responsibility. Such conversations inherently involve an element of risk, which in some circumstances can have very significant implications. The challenge of Courageous Conversations is to address the topics of VALUE, COURAGE and FEAR and the elegant skills of dialogue.

  • Situations where Courageous Conversations are very effective
  • Breaking through "groupthink", encountering resistance to new ideas
  • Facing individuals or groups with strong vested interests
  • Engaging closed, defensive or prickly people
  • Admitting an error or shortcoming - being accountable
  • Holding other people to account
  • Intimidating situations where there is a power imbalance
  • Fostering improved performance in others.

Each week we will explore an element of Courageous Conversations. You will have something to practice in between each teleconference. By the final session you will have the tools required to develop your skills and discover the freedom that comes as you advance your practice.
